Fly.io Reassesses GPU Strategy

Fly.io has announced a reevaluation of its GPU Machines offering, initially designed to support AI/ML inference tasks. Despite the growing importance of AI/ML, the company found that the product didn't align with current market demands.

Challenges included complex integration with Nvidia's ecosystem and significant security concerns. While existing GPU Machines will remain available, Fly.io has no immediate plans for further development in this area.

Perplexity AI Introduces 'Deep Research' Feature

Perplexity AI has launched 'Deep Research,' a tool designed to enhance users' ability to extract and summarize information from multiple web sources. This feature aims to provide concise, well-founded answers to complex queries, differentiating itself from traditional search engines.

Users can engage in threaded discussions, organize research into 'Spaces,' and access the service across various devices, including desktops and mobile platforms.

Elon Musk's xAI Unveils Grok-3 AI Model

Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, has released its latest AI model, Grok-3, which reportedly outperforms competitors like OpenAI's GPT-4o and DeepSeek's V3 in areas such as mathematics, science, and coding. Grok-3 was trained using ten times more computing power than its predecessor, Grok-2, and is available to Premium+ subscribers of X (formerly Twitter).

The model includes features like 'Deep Search' and 'Big Brain' reasoning modes for complex problem-solving. Following the release, X increased its Premium+ subscription price to $40 per month.
