🧠 The Self-driving Browser
Sweden has once again proved itself a hub attracting top-tier smart money at the seed stage. Last week, Strawberry has launched an upgraded version of their agent-powered browser and their seed funding. The $6m round was led by General Catalyst and EQT Ventures. Angels from Lovable, Hugging Face and other tech players are involved as well. Early access is still open, so give it a try.
On another note, Oktoberfest might be over but there is still a good reason to come to Munich this weekend: On Oct 25-26 we will host our next hackathon at the Tacto office. After that, will touch down in Copenhagen on Nov 8.
🇪🇺 What’s happening in Europe?
Europe has long produced most ML/AI researchers, yet many have eventually left for the US. That might be changing. Mistral appears to be expanding further into research (e.g. here). Also, on the less flashy side, R&D giant imec has opened a new office in Germany. Let’s see if we can pick up in more scientific domains of AI as well, alongside applied AI, where most funding is going for now (see below).
Finnish performance-ring startup Oura, seen on fingers worldwide, especially in tech circles, has raised $900m led by Fidelity and other late stage funds.
Meanwhile Minerva raised $3m in seed funding to make the process of public tenders more efficient. Also, the operators behind the ML library scikit-learn have raised a $13m seed round, led by Serena.
